Blackhawk History

Blackhawk Learning Connection is a not-for-profit child care facility located licensed by the State of Illinois Department of Children & Family Services to provide subsidized care for over 130 children 6 weeks to 10 years of age.  It has been at its present location within the 15th Avenue Blackhawk Courts Housing Complex since 1969.  To further accomodate the needs of its families and the community, the center expanded the facility in 1999 to provide services for nearly 50 infants and toddlers.

Blackhawk Learning Connection provided care for 215 children (nearly 150 families) from January to December in 2004.  Although the day care is located in the Blackhawk Courts Housing Complex, families from all around Rockford use its services.  Almost all of the center's clients receive subsidized fee assistance, an indicator that the majority of its children under the age of 13 live in low-income families with working parents.

Since 1969 Blackhawk Learning Connection has provided care to over 2500 children.
